Righteousness Versus Wickedness
Be a man of peace not a man of war!
Let’s begin with some clarity on definitions.
According to Scripture, a righteous man is someone who is in right standing with God. This righteousness is not earned by our actions but granted by God Himself. It is a position we take in Christ, and as we grow, our actions are expected to align with this new identity.
On the other hand, a wicked man is one who opposes the will of God. Someone who lives in disobedience to His commands and refuses to believe in or follow Him.
Keep these definitions in mind as we move forward.
“Dishonest scales are an abomination to the Lord, But a just weight is His delight. When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom.” Proverbs 11:1-2 NKJV
Dishonest scales are an abomination to the Lord, a just weight is His delight.
This verse couldn’t be more direct.
Why choose dishonesty with a God who sees all? It’s like forming for the very One who formed you.
God delights in integrity. So whether it’s in business, relationships, or everyday life, choose honesty. Be fair, be true, be just. That’s how to keep the Lord smiling over you.
Then it says, “When pride comes, then comes shame; but with the humble is wisdom.”
Hmnnn…
James 4:6 reminds us that “God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
So, it makes perfect sense that pride leads to shame, because the proud are walking alone, without God. But the humble? Oh, they carry a double blessing: wisdom and grace.
Who wouldn’t want that? 😁
“The integrity of the upright will guide them, But the perversity of the unfaithful will destroy them. Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, But righteousness delivers from death. Proverbs 11:3-4 NKJV
Hmnnn…
It pays to be upright
God not only delights in the upright, but their integrity also becomes a compass, guiding them through life.
Integrity means being honest and having strong moral convictions.
It’s not just a good trait, it’s a powerful force for direction.
NLT puts it like this “Honesty guides good people”.
But for the unfaithful, the dishonest, their own corruption leads to ruin. Their downfall is self-inflicted.
Then verse 4 comes in
Riches are useless in the day of wrath. Status, influence, or how much you’ve gathered won’t matter when you stand before God.
Judgment doesn’t check your bank account; it checks your heart and how you lived.
But righteousness, being in right standing with God, that is what delivers from death. Not money, not clout, just righteousness.
Let’s continue…
“The righteousness of the blameless will direct his way aright, But the wicked will fall by his own wickedness. The righteousness of the upright will deliver them, But the unfaithful will be caught by their lust.” Proverbs 11:5-6 NKJV
This verse echoes the truth we already saw in verses 3 and 4.
It reminds us that, ultimately, we determine how things end for us.
Righteousness doesn’t just look good on paper, it actively directs your path. It shapes your decisions and steers you in the right direction.
In contrast, wickedness isn’t just wrong, it is a trap that causes people to fall by their own actions. Their destruction is self-made.
Again, we see that righteousness delivers, it rescues, it saves.
But the unfaithful? They’re not just unfortunate; they’re caught and exposed by their own desires.
These verses are a loud reminder:
We choose our end by the choices we make.
How your story ends isn’t a mystery, it is shaped daily by whether you walk in righteousness or rebellion.
“The memory of the righteous is blessed, But the name of the wicked will rot. The wise in heart will receive commands, But a prating fool will fall. Proverbs 10:7-8 NKJV
At this point, we might as well title this chapter “Righteousness vs. Wickedness.”😃
Over and over, we’re shown the contrast between both paths, the reward of righteousness and the ruin of wickedness.
Look at this: The memory of the righteous is blessed, even after they are gone, their lives still speak. Their legacy endures.
But the wicked? Their name fades away in dishonor, forgotten. Kai! What a fate🥹
The righteous are not only remembered, they are teachable. The Bible says the wise in heart receive commands. This means they are guided, corrected, and led by the Lord.
But the foolish? They talk too much, listen too little, and eventually fall by their own noise.
Again, the message is clear:
Righteousness carries blessing, even beyond this life.
Wickedness carries loss, even of one’s own name.
“He who walks with integrity walks securely, But he who perverts his ways will become known. He who winks with the eye causes trouble, But a prating fool will fall.” Proverbs 10:9-10 NKJV
See how NLT puts it
“People with integrity walk safely, but those who follow crooked paths will be exposed. People who wink at wrong cause trouble, but a bold reproof promotes peace.” Proverbs 10:9-10 NLT
There’s a clear connection here: integrity brings safety, while crookedness brings exposure. When you walk in truth, you walk securely, with nothing to hide and nothing to fear. But when you twist your ways and engage in shady behavior, it’s only a matter of time before you are exposed.
It also says, “People who wink at wrong cause trouble.”
This refers to those who turn a blind eye to evil, or worse, silently endorse it. That’s how chaos creeps in, through silence.
But the verse ends with a strong charge:
“A bold reproof promotes peace.”
Reproof means to express disapproval or correct something that’s wrong. If you see evil or injustice, speak up. Don’t be silent, don’t be shady.
Be bold in truth. That’s how peace is preserved.
Let’s summarize what we’ve seen so far
1. Righteousness is a delight to the Lord while wickedness is an abomination to the Lord.
2. The end of righteousness is wisdom, the end of wickedness is Shame.
3. Being righteous guides you, being wicked destroys you.
4. Being righteous delivers you, being wicked fails you.
5. The memory of the righteous is blessed, while the name of the wicked rots.
6. The righteous receives commands, while the wicked falls.
7. The righteous is secured, the wicked is exposed.
Now go ahead, share this.
More importantly, live it. You can easily live it when you meditate on these words all through the week.
Remember, We are not just hearers of the Word, we are doers.
See you.
